Shem - initial concept write up
NZFF Proposal
We have conceptualised the idea of having pop up containers as part of our NZFF proposal. We have envisioned a space that is dedicated to the public for them not only to be exposed to what the festival has to offer but to also get a taste of other mediums of art they may not have previously been interested not inclined to explore before.
Our vision is an open space open to all members of the public. Two containers will set up residence in a large open space in three different suburbs, each for a week at a time to cover the whole three weeks of the festivals duration.
The two containers will be positioned slightly facing each other at an angle to provide a middle area where the public can relax, interact and be entertained. One of the containers will serve as an entertainer area, a stage that will be designed to showcase local acts around wellington as a form of entertainment but also serve as a platform for artists in terms of exposure and encouraging the arts in our city.
The other container will serve as a hub designed to entertain and entice the audiences in the space. Interactive iPads built in with an app especially designed for the festival will serve as a tool to get the public excite, informed and also showcase the events and acts happening in the festival, with the option to also be able to purchase tickets for different acts on-site.
These two containers will be designed and set up with a minimal feel to keep the focus on the entertainment, music, food and people that are creating the vibes in the place. These Pop-up containers will integrate well into the big open spaces of the suburbs that we are proposing to set up in, as this gives the crowds plenty of space to enjoy themselves on the beanbags, benches and blankets that will be set up in between the two slightly adjacent trucks.
As well as the entertainment and the interactive hub, we have proposed a collaboration with some of the local food and eatery place in wellington to come in and join us, where it be a coffee, pizza or Mexican stall; to not only further give them exposure to the people on the outskirts of the city, but also a leverage for us in creating this space, as we seek to enhance the audience experience as much as possible.
Our proposed idea aims to help bring the art to the people. The concept of reaching out and infiltrating the spaces these people inhabit, rather than them seeking for these spaces, will encourage not only word of mouth amongst the people in the area, but will gain NZFF wide exposure across a wide range of age ranges and different walks of life.
We hope that by creating this set-up the audiences will gain a further appreciation for the acts that NZFF are bringing into our city, as well as exposure to the local acts, music and food that they may not have encountered or inclined to try before.
